A fine example of accomplished Scottish Architect, William Leiper’s eclectic style in mansionhouses, found in a semi ruinous state, subsequently rescued and restored as part of a new housing development within the original estate. The restoration of Auchenbothie House brought a satisfactory conclusion to its troubled history of previous years. A succession of owners and various abandoned schemes allowed the building to suffer progressive vandalism and deterioration since it was vacated as a retirement home.

We found the semi ruin of Auchenbothie House in such a sad state that surely few developers would even wish to consider embarking on such an adventure. A windowless, roofless wreck of a structure. A multi turreted fairy tale fantasy that almost didn’t exist anymore, we kind of fell in love with its promise of greatness. Part of an enabling development to allow Cala homes to build villas in the surrounding estate, we sourced the best craftsmen, materials and know how to return the house to its former glory. Converted into ten individual apartments, it remains one of our more memorable projects.
